Today is the boys birthday. I am taking them to Chillies after work and encouraging them to order one of those Chocolate Molten Volcano desserts. Then we are going to my place (that sounds so weird) to spend the night. Tomorrow I am taking them to a All Star Dad event at the Trop. It is supposed to be for dads and their kids. It is sponsored by Tony Dungy. Then we are going to the movies. I think we are going to see Ice Age at 4pm with 6 other kids. All of this followed by a sleepover. Should be a fun weekend (he says dripping with sarcasm)
Why does this all sound so familiar?
Did you read The Thirteenth Tale?

Happy Birthday to them!! Sounds like good birthday plans. I am assuming the movie and sleepover are the party? Mine saw Ice Age when I saw My Sister's Keeper. Said it was good.
Not yet. I started I Know This Much is True then stopped because i couldn't get into it. Then i read First Light, one of the BOB books. Now I am reading The Middle Place, which is an autobiography that my sister just finished. It is really good. Book club isn't til the end of the month so i have time.
Somehow we managed free desert at Chillies. Each got their own chocolate molten volcano thingy.
The movie and sleepover were on Saturday. Eight kids. We took them to see Ice Age, which was ok. I liked the Eddy Izzard character, Buck. by the end of the evening I was exhausted.
awesome!! Did they both share with you? I remember N got a free dessert on his birthday and X was hoping Burger King did the same. they do not.
I can imagine. Did you spend the night as well or did you get to go home and sleep uninterrupted?
Do you leave tomorrow or Wednesday?
Matthew did share. He is more generous than his brother. Chris had the desert for dinner whereas Matthew had dinner and then desert.
Yea, I stayed over too. D cracked a rib last week so she has been a bit hobbled.
I leave Tues at 8am and return Fri eve. I doubt I'll get to that sushi place inside Paris this year.
So he planned ahead and didn't fill up with real food? Clever!
8 11 year old boys and a cracked rib? EEK! I had a cracked rib in college, hurt a lot and took forever to heal.
why not?
I will be at Innisbrook this weekend.
He didn't think I'd let him.
We took them swimming in the afternoon. Did you ever see Caddyshack? If so, and you remember the scene when it was caddy day at the pool, it was just like that.
And there is nothing you can do with a rib except maybe pain meds. She did it trying to flip the mattress on the bunk beds.
This year we are at the Las Vegas Hilton, it is not on the Strip. So #1, getting there is part of the problem. My brother doesn't eat sushi is another problem. And of the two free nights, we already have dinner plans for one of them. So it looks unlikely. But with all of the good restaurants it doesn't mean I won't get a good meal.
Was he hungry an hour later? that is the problem I have with mine.
I have not. will not. nope. not ever.
yes, that is exactly what the doctor said. in a rather unsympathetic tone. without giving me any pain meds. Mine was in a car accident.
I am going out for sushi Thursday night. it seems odd that he doesn't eat sushi. I was just reading an article about Las Vegas. It was mentioning Go Raw Cafe, which is an all raw restaurant. probably won't make it there either...
I started Thirteenth tale. Definitely a book that needs long uninterrupted reading time.
hi.
hope your having a good trip.
finished thirteenth tale. I will have to go back and read your book talk to remind myself. I liked it.
I enjoyed the book. I liked the twist at the end regarding the twins.
I liked Thirteenth Tale a lot. It was a little hard to get into and I agree with you about Margaret being a little flat. I am torn (and interested in what happens at book club) between thinking the novel was brilliant written both with plot and tone/mood and thinking it overly copied the romantic style and had a contrived plot.
I'm sure I don't have the depth of reading history as you so I couldn't say if the plot was copied or contrived. But I did like how the mood and tone were set. I never wanted to drink hot chocolate when reading a book before. It take a while to build momentum but it did hold my attention.
Let me know what your book club thinks.
So far one thinks brilliant. One had the same needling suspicion.
Cool. How many are in your group again? 4?
oh, these two are not actual book club. There is a core group of 4 in book club and another 3-4 on the fringe.
So how many people read the book, including you? Do some just skip it if they are not interested in the book or is everyone diligent?
Everyone makes an attempt. Some succeed better than others. As of last weekend, A had not started, but she reads a lot and has the book. K is away but I am guessing she is getting in reading time. L always does - I see her this friday (as well as Monday at bookclub). The others I don't know. I should probably send out a reminder email soon.
That's good. This book club meeting tonight is the first one I did not even attempt to read. Debating if I should go or not. Others have gone even though they didn't read the book
a-ha suppose to! What was the book?
Prayers for Bobby
oh,yeah. did you go?
Yes, I went. It was a much smaller group this time. I think just 10 showed up. The lady that selected this book also lead the discussion which thereby entitles her to offer selections for a future book. So the book for November will be Nickled & Dimed (which I already own)
where was it?
It was at Old Northeast Tavern in Old Northeast St Pete. Just a small restaurant attached to a small tavern. Street parking is a bit of a PITA but the food was good. Not the typical bar/tavern stuff. (no chicken wings) and lots of odd micro-brewed beer.
What sort of things do they serve if not wings?? Have anything interesting?
It is quite an interesting menu. I had a Asian Chicken salad that had a wasabi sesame dressing and mandarin orange slices. It packed a little zing. They offer panini pressed sandwiches, brick oven pizzas, crab stuffed mushrooms, ahi tuna appetizers and more.

looks interesting. Who decides where you go? Did you enjoy the discussion even though you hadn't read the book?
The moderator announces the location. She works in downtown St Pete so it tends to stay near there.
The discussion was pretty good and it was interesting enough that I might read the book one day. The Pasco library system didn't stock the book so I didn't bother this time around. But it was interesting to hear the insight from some ladies who were more "religious". Apparently the boys mother was ultra-right wing religious but changed her views after her son committed suicide.
